PASTOR JOHN COLLINS, REDEEMING THE GOSPEL: EXCUSES, EXCUSES
FROM JOHN COLLINS MINISTRIES: PROCRASTINATION
“He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough!”
Proverbs 28:19 (NKJV).
Procrastination is a problem for many. There are many
reasons to procrastinate and all of them come with excuses that we make up in
our heads. You can’t find the time to work out because you are always at work
which is why you can’t find the time to get to your kids’ games or events. You
can create an excuse for putting off anything that you feel guilty for avoiding
but in the long run it just creates more guilt.
Life is complicated and we set goals for ourselves and when
we don’t meet those goals we end up punishing ourselves mentally.
Procrastination becomes a habit and a way to hurt ourselves when we don’t feel
that we deserve to meet the goals that we have set, whatever those may be.
God does not want you miserable or hating yourself. You
should always ask yourself if what you want to accomplish is in line with the
will of God and then you should seek to accomplish those things that would
please God and provide your life with a greater sense of accomplishment and
satisfaction.
The time is going to pass, regardless of what you do. Each
day is going to continue to go by whether you get off the couch and begin to
get healthy, get a job, get educated, get out into the community that you
belong to and make a difference in a positive way which is what Jesus wants for
each of us to do or if you do nothing at all. But none of us are guaranteed
tomorrow and none of us knows when our time is up so it should be spent in
doing what we mean to do and in meaning to do good.
“Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs
27:1 (NKJV).
